Giang Vu completes his annual PhD monitoring committee

On September 17th, the annual PhD monitoring committee (comité de suivi individuel) of Giang Vu took place. Giang is a third-year PhD student in the RFAI group (https://www.rfai.lifat.univ-tours.fr/), where he is finalizing his thesis on scalable and robust Named Entity Recognition (NER) in French video transcripts. In French universities, this committee is a mandatory step to assess student progress and define the final milestones toward the PhD defense. The evaluation was carried out before expert reviewer Ewa Kijak (IRISA, Rennes, France) and external reviewer Didier Chauveau (IDP, Orléans, France).
​Giang’s PhD is progressing very well, with already two international publications to his credit. The latest one will be presented at the international multimedia conference CBMI 2026 (https://cbmi2026.sciencesconf.org/), held this October in Toulouse, France. Alongside his publications, Giang has released STVD-MNER (https://dataset-stvd.univ-tours.fr/mner/), the largest dataset to date for NER in video transcripts.
​Giang is expected to defend his PhD in early 2027, before pursuing an academic career as a faculty member at a university in Hanoi, Vietnam. We wish him the very best for his future career and continued success in completing his doctoral program!
