Annual PhD monitoring committee of Hoang Long NGUYEN
On October 1st, the PhD committee meeting was held for Long Nguyen, a first-year PhD student in the RFAI group (https://www.rfai.lifat.univ-tours.fr/) and as well a lecturer of HDU-FET faculty (https://ktcn.hdu.edu.vn/)
Long is pursuing a PhD on the topic of “Multimedia, Multimodal and Explainable Fact-Checking.” The PhD committee is a mandatory process in French universities to evaluate a student’s progress and ensure they meet the requirements to continue their PhD. The evaluation was conducted by two reviewers: Petra Gomez (L3i Laboratory, La Rochelle, France) in the field of computer science and Gustavo Gomez-Mejia (PRIM, Tours, France) in communication and information.
Long’s PhD is off to a great start with a first paper already published at ROMCIR 2026. He now has a second paper accepted for publication entitled “CrossTrans-MFC: An Effective Cross Transformer Approach for Multimedia Fact-Checking,” which will be presented at the international multimedia conference CBMI 2026, taking place this October in Toulouse, France.
Future research perspectives for his work will cover various aspects, including scalability and explainability, incorporating user feedback from media experts.
We wish Long Nguyen all the best as he continues his PhD, which covers cross-disciplinary fields at the intersection of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and data journalism.
